The initiative reinforces the “The Castle for Everyone” project, promoting cultural heritage that is increasingly accessible and enjoyable through Design for All.

Locomotive Panel - Unveiling on June 4, 2026

On June 4, 2026, a visual-tactile panel dedicated to Locomotive No. 1 was unveiled in the plaza in front of Brescia Castle, positioned directly in front of the restored locomotive. The installation is part of the project “The Castle for Everyone—Tactile Views from Cidneo” and reinforces the system of inclusive trails launched in 2022.

The project was the result of a collaboration between the Lions Club Brescia Leonessa X Giornate and the Comitato Amici del Cidneo, with scientific coordination by Ivana Passamani and the involvement of the City of Brescia, the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired, and the Fondazione Brescia Musei. The Locomotiva panel is the most recent in a series of installations that now includes seven tactile panels distributed at strategic points throughout the complex: near the San Faustino Metro station, at the castle entrance, in the Locomotiva area, on the Torre dei Francesi, and above the Via Mazzini tunnel. The content is organized around three main themes: the relationship between the city and the Castle, the architectural structure of the monumental complex, and the panoramic views from Cidneo Hill. It is designed to be experienced both independently and as part of the overall sensory tour.

The panel was created by Citislab, a spin-off of the University of Brescia. Through its raised design, high-contrast colors, and clear text in English and Braille, the installation allows anyone to explore the form and history of Locomotive No. 1, restoring a shared experience to this piece of industrial heritage. The approach is based on the principles of Design for All: not a separate path, but an experience designed for all visitors, regardless of their visual ability.

Representing local institutions at the inauguration were Valter Muchetti, council member of the City of Brescia, and Nicola Stilla, President of UICI Brescia. Daniela Rossi Romano, Governor of Lions District 108 Ib2, and Marco Carbone, President of the Lions Club Brescia Leonessa X Giornate, participated on behalf of the organizations sponsoring the project. Also present were Francesca Bazoli, President of Fondazione Brescia Musei, and Giovanni Brondi, President of the Comitato Amici del Cidneo. Enrico Maggini, President of the Club Fermodellistico Bresciano, was also in attendance. Representing Citislab was Ivana Passamani, Founder and President.
