Visits and inspections to the exhibition spaces show that the tags with the captions, if they are not made following the principles of readability provided for visually impaired people and if they do not provide for the transposition of texts into the writing code Braille or through audio contained, for example, in a QR Code, they do not meet the criteria of inclusiveness for all.
Solutions to achieve accessibility of these information apparatuses must therefore include:

• The use of appropriate fonts (sans serifs) and typefaces (generally understood to be from body 16 and up), preferably capitalized and embossed for text descriptions
• The transposition of the contents into Braille and the possible addition of audio contained in the QR Code
• the composition of the left flag texts
• if required for the type of museum users, the English language version.

According to Giovanni Lussu (The Letter Kills, Alternative Press & Graffiti, Viterbo 1999), visibility can be defined as a prerequisite of legibility and is formed by the set of physical, physiological and perceptual circumstances (illumination, contrast with the support, color ratios, distance, definition, discriminability between signs, presence or absence of movement, disturbance phenomena …) while readability can be defined as the aptitude of a text to be read and derives from exquisitely cultural circumstances, such as the type and degree of training of the reader, the habit of reading, the variety of forms known.
So, the knowledge by visually impaired users of what is preserved in museums or displayed in art galleries requires a careful approach and the use of user-friendly media that reduce any perceptual and sensory barriers.

In this sense, we propose an innovative product, which can enrich the communication for All of the works even if the institution cannot resort to the installation of the tactile panels “Formal Tactile Work” and Photographic Tactile Work”: in fact, the product Tactile Plaque “Extended Text + Drawing” provides an original combination of textual content and graphic content.

The inclusion of a schematic relief drawing of the work can certainly offer a concise understanding of its composition and balances.

Importantly, inclusive solutions have a positive impact on the visitor experience not only for the visually impaired, but also for all visitors.
